Vasanti Brighten Up!
I’m obsessed with subscription boxes.
A few years ago, one of these boxes sent me a sample size of exfoliator. That night I decided to try it in the shower but I wasn’t excited. What’s another exfoliating product? There are already so many of them on the market. What came next made me a believer.
Four sisters (three by blood and one by friendship) bonded over two issues that most people can relate to. One was that makeup wasn’t sitting well on their skin. In part it was due to improper skincare and makeup prep. The second was that makeup ranges at the time did not make colors that matched them. In short, when they tried to find products that worked all four women of color, they came up short. That’s how, in 1999, Pinki Gosal, Monal Patel, Priti Patel and Gargi Patel launched three hero products.
The first product to hit shelves? The Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator.

How To Use
This product is both a chemical (enzyme) and physical exfoliator. This means that the papaya enzyme breaks down the cells of dead and old skin found on the topmost layer of the face. The crystals also provide a “scrub” that creates microscopic tears in the skin to promote faster cell regeneration.
Make sure all makeup is removed and your face is cleansed before using this product. Then wet the face and massage a pea sized amount of Brighten Up! on your face. Gently massage the product, going in circles with your hands around areas of the face. The texture is a bit gritty so if you like that feeling and want to increase your pressure then go for it but don’t scrub too hard.
Then you simply rinse the product off and follow with your usual skin routine. Use this exfoliator two times a week to start and increase it if you feel you need more.
I cannot stress enough how glowing and renewed my skin felt. The grainy texture felt like I was really polishing off any dead or dry skin. It also wasn’t the most scented product, even though it had added fragrance. My skin was smooth and fresh without feeling stripped or tight. Since my first trial tube I’ve replenished my supply of this product multiple times over. While I’ve tried many different products, this is the one I keep coming back to when I really need it because I know it’s got my back - and my shoulders and my face.
