The Best Looks: Governors Awards

The Governors Awards often coast under people’s radars but let’s educate ourselves for a minute. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has been hosting this event for the past ten years, giving people in the entertainment industry lifetime achievement Oscars. You read that right, Oscars.

Some major winners at the past Governors Awards have been Lauren Bacall, James Earl Jones, Jackie Chan, and Cicely Tyson (this year’s winner). The ceremony also takes the time to award people in the industry who are giving back to their communities and the world with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. Angelina Jolie and Oprah have both been granted this honor in the past.

The Governors Awards have also been seen as a kickoff to Academy Award nominations and awards’ season, with the red carpet being a who’s who of fashion. We snagged the best looks and gave full credit to the celebrity teams that brought them together.

This year, however, the red carpet appearances were truncated due to the California fires. While we can’t offer you a Humanitarian Award for your help in California Wildfire relief, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t contribute to those who have lost their families and homes.

Join the Red Cross in Wildfire Relief by volunteering or donation.
