Must Haves for Holiday Travel

Planes, trains, and automobiles… will be clogging up the world this December for the holidays. As loved one travel to be with each other (or away from each other) there is something that we can all agree on: traveling can be stressful.

Whether you are taking one of the modes of transit we mentioned or you arrive and need a luxurious moment of relaxation, we have compiled our favorite travel necessities. These are easy to fit into your toiletry bag, TSA-approved, and practically a spa experience in the palm of your hand.

If you forget your bag at home or your luggage gets lost, don’t fret! Own your ish, hydrate with lots of water, and jet yourself to the nearest store that sells skincare and cosmetics. You can go to the local drugstore or a department store (our founder’s fave is Bloomingdale’s). Either way you decide or whatever you find, use our guide for the product types that you will need to survive these holidays.

Hey, even if you’re spending your holidays on the couch solo then there’s no reason to not treat yoself!

The Mask

Yes, we admit that it takes a secure AF person to wear a sheet mask in public. However, Charlotte Tilbury totally revamped sheet masks as we know them with her Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask.

You read that right, this mask is dry. Unwrap it, put it on your face, use the ear loops (yes, ear loops) to secure it so that it doesn’t slide off your face like some other masks. There’s no goop or mess. Just a complex of peptides, plant extracts, and vitamins to give you supple and radiant skin that will last for up to eight hours.

So while you’re terrified of looking like Jason from Friday the 13th, just remember that a cocoon isn’t cute but that mofo emerged a butterfly.

The Eye Cream

The cream, the myth, the legend. The Eye Balm Intense from La Mer takes everything you know about the brand and ups the ante.

This eye balm harnesses the brand’s Miracle Broth™ to regenerate the sensitive skin around your eyes using algae and minerals. The added Marine De-Puff Ferment™ helps to detox your under-eye area using the gemstone tourmaline. This helps with any puffiness or under-eye baggage. Considering the holidays are a time of high salt and alcohol counts, we’re going to keep reapplying this from the time we set foot on the plane until 2019.

The cold weather coupled with travel can lead to parched skin. We’re talkin’ flakes, dry patches, and an overall dull complexion. There’s nothing quite as miserable as applying your makeup and not getting the result you want because your skin is in bad shape.

We avoid this by slathering ourselves in Hydra Beauty Creme Riche from Chanel. The brand’s scientists extracted the most concentrated elements from the Camellia flower to infuse this luxurious cream with the most hydrating ingredients. Blue Ginger helps protect your skin from environmental aggressors (UV and pollutants). This is a must for airplane travel.

The Spray

There are few things that are more refreshing than a cool spritz on the skin. Water’s cool but have you seen Lightful Softening Lotion?

This product from MAC has diffused vitamin C to renew the skin from any UV damage, increase cell turnover, and heal hyperpigmentation (uneven skin tone). The other prime player is coral grass. What?

Coral grass is a sea plant, harnessed most commonly in Japan, with properties that cause it to be super hydrating when applied to the skin. MAC Cosmetics has been one of the first global brands to use this plant in it’s skincare for a boost of moisture.

The Makeup

So you need the perfect makeup to slip into your clutch for that holiday party or a do-it-all product so you don’t have to lug your whole makeup back in your already over-packed suitcase. Well that product doesn’t exis — just kidding!

Palette Essentielle from Chanel comes in multiple curated tones (six for the basic palette and one on seasonal rotation for added glam). Each compact comes with the perfect concealer that can double as a foundation (just spritz it with the spray above from MAC), a highlighter for that dewy glow, and a color that can be used on lips, cheeks, and eyes. This is a favorite product of Chanel’s head of beauty, Lucia Pica, and one she uses for red carpet and runway.

Mascara will forever be our desert island product and the Hypnose Drama mascara from Lancôme has the wand that dreams are made of. The curve allows you to get down into the roots of your lashes to brush through to the tip with full impact. The curved side helps build and cement your lash curl.

The formula is one of the most dramatic one the market and one swipe is enough for the inkiest and most voluminous lashes. The best part? It doesn’t flake or clump which means no raccoon eyes during that New Year kiss. Grab the holiday edition of this mascara, which contains light reflecting pigments and comes in a chic rose gold package.

Whether you’re trying to compete with the star on the tree or just survive this time, we hope our list of essentials will help. Check out our guide on foundations for dry skin for even more solutions for makeup on dry skin.
